Water Sports Stadium is practically ready for test-events
About to host swimming (15 to 20 April) and Paralympic swimming (22 to 24 April) test events, the Water Sports Olympic Stadium is going through final adjustments. Seats in green and blue are being assembled, the façade has been put up, the main pool water has been treated and it is very close to its definitive set up, while the support pool has been filled with water.
The current stage includes general painting and finishing touches in the competition area, internal finishing, electrical and hydraulic installation details, as well as the water heater. Images from the gallery, recorded on 29 March 2016, may be downloaded in high resolution. The temporary venue required investments in the order of R$ 225 million in federal resources, with delivery under the charge of the Rio de Janeiro City Hall.
After the Games, the Water Sports Olympic Stadium facilities will be transferred to public organisations. Beneficiaries are being chosen through a public call for proposals published by the Ministry of Sport. The initiative has the goal of broadening and nationalising the Rio 2016 Games legacy, as agencies from other states and municipalities may end up having the structure used at the event allocated to them, setting up a new sport training and development hub in the country.
The structure will be split into three parts, with each public organisation eligible to having up to one part allocated to it. The warehouse, metal roof and modular stands are in the first batch. The other two include a pre-manufactured Olympic pool in each, plus the filtering system, pipes and accessory connections, warming system, starting blocks and other accessories.
