Judo silver medallist Wilians Araújo attends federal government press conference on inclusion through sports

Special Secretary for the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Roseane Cavalcante de Freitas Estrela (Rosinha da Adefal) will talk about the inclusion of persons with disabilities through sport

Rio de Janeiro, 11 September 2016 - The Special Secretary for the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, Roseane Cavalcante de Freitas Estrela (Rosinha da Adefal), will talk about the inclusion of persons with disabilities through sport at a news conference to be held on Monday (12 September) at the Rio Media Center. She will be joined by judoka Wilians Araújo, silver medallist in the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games.

Wilians Silva Araújo, who represented Brazil in the men's over 100 kg category, lost his sight in a gunshot accident when he was 10 years old. He started practising judo in 2009, and has since won a number of important titles, including silver medals in the Guadalajara (2011) and Toronto (2015) Parapan American Games and the 2011 World Youth Championship of the International Blind Sports Association (IBSA), held in the US. Araújo won silver at the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games.
