The Ministry of Sport and the Brazilian Doping Control Authority (ABCD) have welcomed the news that the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) decided on Wednesday (20/07) to lift the provisional suspension placed on 24 June on the Brazilian Doping Control Laboratory (LBCD) managed by the Institute of Chemistry of the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ). The notice was signed by Sir Craig Redie, president of the Wada Executive Committee. The decision comes into effect immediately.

Over the past few weeks, Minister of Sport Leonardo Picciani and National Secretary of ABCD Rogério Sampaio followed closely with the Rio 2016 Organising Committee and the International Olympic Committee (IOC) the audit and review of procedures undertaken by WADA.

Confirmation of UFRJ's laboratory as the official body responsible for carrying out the doping tests during the Rio 2016 Olympic and Paralympic Games stresses the confidence of the Ministry of Sport and ABCD in the work performed by LBCD – with more than 2,500 tests conducted since its inception – and in the technical and scientific achievements in the fight against doping in sports.
